- six claws: two for top latch, two for securing lateral movement, two at the bottom to guard against "bike jump" when driven over road humps/uneven surface,
Advice to ensure successful fitting on vehicle:
-1- no spare tyre or mounting bracket
-2- the rear door or hatch plate ideally be totally metallic with a thin latch perimeter that fingers could claw onto ( just as if the straps with hooks to claw onto it. ) .
Important Note: Some doors are made with nice-looking plastic casement/blazers bolt-mounted on metallic doors -- these WILL NOT DO, particularly if the top latch is plastic Plastic cannot hold weight of 3 bikes sustained by the top claws; do you want to risk breaking the exterior?? ) . Simply tap around the latch/edge to check if plastic or not; If plastic, sorry most racks cannot be used anyway, unless you cleverly work around this limitations according to the rack design. Many buyers went off finally realized.
